Creating Kid Spaces From Nurseries to Tweens Bedrooms - Redpath Reveals

As I expand my interior design practice beyond baby, this reveal could not have come at a better time. The Redpath family has been with me since 2006, the beginning of Daisy Baby!  3 kids & 4 Rooms later we are still designing together.  It's been so wonderful working with Renee all these years & watching the kids grow. That's why these reveals are so special to me. I too, have grown alongside this family.

How it all started....

Helena's Nursery

Renee & Tyson were amoung earliest clients and the 1st to embrace the "modern baby" look. They bought Nursery Works furniture which was one of the only modern companies. The Aerial crib with wide espresso trim & carved side panels to choose from is still super fly. The 2 sided modular changing dresser is still one of my favorite pieces. (I still have NW furniture in my home:) Now retired, these pieces have truly been through the test of time and still look barely used after 3 kids.. A testament to investing in top quality pieces that can be passed down to multiple children.

What I enjoyed most about working with Renee was that she mixed the super modern furniture with super shabby chic custom Elizabeth Allen bedding for Helena's nursery.  I love the juxtaposition between the two very different styles that gelled together perfectly.

Before: Weston's Nursery

After: Helena's Tween Room

Leaving the traditional walls of retail actually frees me to explore other lines & companies that I would not normally purchase from. When Renee hired me to do Helena's Tween Room (She is 9 years old now, maybe 10 by the time this post?) I was happy to have the chance to incorporate other brands to make sure we got the job done. This new flexibility led us to Restoration Hardware's Teen collection.

From RHTeen we purchased the Deyvan tufted upholstered Bed in warm white. The Maelin delicate writing desk and the Avalon gold open mounted bookcase. For a dresser we went with Bungalow 5 Fairfax rattan 6 Drawer Dresser. We were able to reuse the Serena & Lily Bedding from her big girl room for the bed. My favorite element is the parson's chair we had reupholstered in a fabulous Duralee Black & white spotted fabric. The look is finished with stunning window treatments from my girl Laurie Mcparland of picture windows. They absolutely make the room pop.

Before: Helena's Big Girl Room

As more kids come, sometimes families play musical rooms. The Big girl room we did for Helena back in 2009 was given to her little brother. So we moved out her super cute Newport Cottage bedroom furniture to make room. At the time no one even thought of using the color Grey! It was all about Pink & Brown baby. So she had Emily bed & Taylor dresser in Mocha with Pink accents. The Nurseryworks Sleepytime Rocker from her nursery worked great tucked in a corner.

After: Thatcher's Big Boy Room

A Full over Full. Yes we did full size bunkbeds! The Restoration Hardware Baby Thayer bed is just to DIE for! It became the centerpiece of this lovely design. Again Renee isn't afraid to mix materials. The Eldon steamtrunk dresser has a denim fabric and it looks great along side with Kemp metal desk. But the fun piece is the Platt leather desk chair finished with a belt. STOP IT! And again the comfy Monte Designs Grano recliner from the nursery continues to live in the big kid space as additional seating.

Thank You Redpath Family it has been a blast!!
