Scalamandré Wallpaper For A Ladies Lounge

Ohhhh I just love Scalamandré. There is just something about their wallpapers & fabrics that I can’t get enough of. Now, you may not know them immediately by name, but I bet you know their iconic galloping Zebra wallpaper? At over 90 years old, Scalamdré is one of the oldest design houses in America. You can see them hanging on the walls of William Randolph Hearst’s Castle to the Red Room at the White House’s. They have done so much over the years, check out their historical timeline.

Scalamandré just makes a statement! The core of their prints are just over the top adding a boldness and drama. If you put them on your walls, you’ve probably have a little bit of a wild streak. Yet, at the same time, they are a throwback to classic style, refined quality, and timeless design.

Even as a successful Sotheby's real estate agent, my client Theresa Taylor, had a wild streak in her. So when she said yes to wallpaper in our inspirational meeting, I knew that Scalamandre would be a perfect fit for her. She was very clear that she did not want a typical beige & white house. She wanted colors, she wanted unexpected & individuality. These were features I knew Scalamandré could deliver and I had the perfect rooms for them to shine. I wrote a previous blog on her fabulous living room. Check it out here.

THE LADIES LOUNGE

I approach design in a very functional way. I can redesign rooms so that each one in your house is used in a way that makes most sense for you and your family. In Theresa’s home, we turned her traditional dining room into her Ladies Lounge. A room she could use as her home office, a cozy reading space and yoga spot. This stunning Scalamandré Kotori Mural is key to bringing this room together.

This stunning Scalamandré Kotori Mural was key to bringing this room together. I love a mural wallpaper because it's one large image that spans vertically and horizontally. With a bold navy background, the paper feels like a painted wall.  The Mural's intertwined flowers, vines & birds, with pops of yellow, pinks and greens, acts as one massive piece of glorious artwork.

Installation is key. My go to guy, Jeff Ross got it just right. The covered switch plates makes me so happy. Look how they covered that little bit of wall on the other side of the door frame. Perfection:)

For a ladies lounge, it was important to give it a girlie look. That was accomplished with a soft pink sofa and modern hot pink colored oriental rug. At the same time, Theresa still wanted to have a mid century modern feel. So we incorporated a few of her vintage wood pieces to create an authentic look.

BEFORE/AFTER

The circular chandelier with gold and white accents, is the centerpiece of the room. Shining a light on one of my favorite pieces of furniture. The Secretary Desk. I love how functional a secretary is because allows her to work freely, then at the end of the day, the room is an office no more.

I can’t talk enough this lucite rod & rings, my famous book stacks and cozy antelope ottomans. It what brings the room all together
