Family, Heritage & The LA TIMES

A random parking lot interview with a LA Times reporter, Jenny Jarvis, turned into a thoughtful profile on my family’s story and our Georgia heritage. This unexpected encounter at the end of the year, allowed me to take a moment to pause and reflect on gratitude and togetherness during this trying times.

I’m originally a California Girl, a UCLA Bruin at that! So being featured on the cover of the LA Times newspaper was pretty cool. It’s funny how an article about politics, became anything but that for me. Jenny Jarvis wrote a piece that highlighted my family’s history in reference to the bigger scheme of America’s culture.

I was so happy my father got a chance to tell his story. From the back stick woods of Georgia’s south, to the great migration north to Detroit & then all the way west to San Fransico, his journey lead me to this exact moment in time. I was unexpectedly at the right place, at the right time to be apart of pivotal change.

Ohhhh and a big bonus was having a professional photographer come out to shoot me & the family for the paper. Even with 3 hours notice, I was happy for an excuse to get the family together & take a picture. The annual family photoshoot had long gone by the wayside. And you know how I love a family photo!!! So it was really good for this covid quarantined crew to get dressed & commemorate that 2020 was rough, yet there were many silver-linings and we are still HERE.

Heritage is so important to so many of us. Everyone has a story to tell. What’s yours & how can I incorporate it into your home’s design? In 2021 let’s reflect your background & culture into your next design project.

Sending Strength, Safety & Sanity

for your family to a

Hopeful Happy 2021!!!
