Organize & Maximize Your Closets For Entry Areas & Bedrooms

Dana is all about Beauty & Functionality. Before any designing happens, we have to organize the home. Closets are the best place to start. If you make space in your closet, you can make space in the room. The two closets I tackle 1st are your Front hall closet & Bedroom closets.

Create a Mud Closet, without a mudroom

NO Mudroom. NO Problem. Let’s work with what you’ve got. I bet you have a front coat closet stuffed to the brim, probably storing every coat you own. But these closets can often be our best opportunity to give you mud with the room. So one of the 1st things I suggest to the majority of my clients is tearing out that 1 rack & turning it into a mud closet.

This is exactly what I designed for the Strickland & Eden families needed. I wanted to make sure Mom could take a sigh of relief knowing there is a place for the backpack, favorite jacket and a matching set of gloves. While at the same time empowering her little one to be responsible for his own things. The Mud Closet helped accomplish these goals.

Mud Closets: Giving you what you need

  1. Hooks, Not Hangers: It is so much easier & faster to just drape a jacket on a hook instead of putting them on hangers.

  2. Hooks at Kids Levels: If they can reach it they can put it away!!! Helping them to be independent.

  3. Shelves Where Needed: No one can reach the self at the top of the closet. Instead we put shelves at a variety of levels where they are easy to access & take advantage of deadspace.

  4. Labeled Bins & Baskets: Here are the gloves. Here are the hats. Here are the seasonal items. Here are the dogs leashes.

Maximizing Bedroom Closets

BUILDER grade closets are my pet peeve!! That one hanging bar with shelf on top, never helped anybody. So much space is wasted above & below the rack. These days we need every inch we can get. It feels so good to be able to open your closet doors & see everything. There is peace knowing you’re not out growing your space. There is a place for each purse, shoe & pair of socks.

When helping the Almandrez family preparing for baby #1, they wanted to start off on the right foot. They wanted to make sure the closet can grow with baby Landon.

There is nothing like a custom closet. It was important for me to create a handsome functional primary bedroom closet for this bachelor. The goal was to have less furniture in order to give him a more open feeling in the bedroom. I eliminated the dressers, instead building drawers into the closet.

Benefits of investing in Custom Closets

  1. Creating space, where non-exsisted

  2. Being able to see what you own

  3. Allowing you to store more

  4. Having clear systems of organization

  5. It’s so nice to look at :)
