A Beautiful Basement: The Stevens' Renovation Reveal
One of the best selling items in the baby boutique, I used to own, were these gorgeous hand-made quilts by Andrea Stevens. They were so popular, I was often calling her to restock. Over the years Andrea became part of the Everly & Monet family.
So I was thrilled when she called me to help her renovate her Chevy Chase basement. She wanted to make it a cozy space for her & her husband to relax, snuggle up & take in a movie. Andrea, also wanted it to have plenty of space for her children to come home with their children!
We Started From Scratch…..
Some people love a day of shopping. I love a day on a construction site (ok, I love shopping too!!) It was great to start from the ground up. Even in a blank space I could envision what Andrea wanted. Although, not a huge basement in a traditional colonial, it had more than enough room for me to design two distinct spaces: “A Sitting Area” & “ A Sleeping Area”
From Mood Board Concept……..
When I presented these mood boards to her, it met her goal for light greys, bold yellows, crisp whites & pops of aqua. I used complimentary rugs to frame the spaces. Even though we were building out her basement, it was very important to Andrea that it didn’t feel like one. She even splurged on adding heated floors. A perfect way to keep it cozy year round.
To Inception………..
The Sitting Area
The sitting room is anchored by the custom built in’s. It was important for them to have plenty of hiding places, room for components & of course a place for Dana to style!! American Leather “Comfort Sleepers” are my go to for high end sofa sleepers. They are a must.
Andrea had this wonderful victorian doll house she wanted accessible for her granddaughter. I wish I could have one for ME!! I’ve always wanted one. So I used its colors as my inspiration in the room.
The Sleeping Area
Andrea has a fun whimsical style, so I knew these great lamps from Stray Dog made out of paper mache would really be like the cherry on the top. I am so proud of how lovely this space came together. Thank you Andrea for letting me into your home:)
"Thanks, Dana. Our daughter & family loved the new space! It was wonderful having them here and for them to enjoy their own, quiet place." Andrea S.
